The Museum

The Abruzzo Chamois Museum is managed by the Ciefizom Cooperative. It includes didactic-information panels illustrating the vicissitudes of the animal, which disappeared from the Gran Sasso over 100 years ago and documenting the stages of the reintroduction project. The complex operation that brought the splendid ungulate back to the mountains of the Park was strengthened by the creation of a wildlife area, close to the Golden Calf Waterfall, of about four hectares which houses various specimens. The exhibition in the Museum is unique in Europe for the theme addressed and for its original internal organization, with areas for games and sensory experiences that extend from the Museum towards the mountain, towards the Wildlife Area and towards the naturalistic path usable by students for unforgettable days in nature, in which the symbolic animal of the Park accompanies them to discover the mountain environments. The activities of the Museum favor the visit to the village of Farindola which is the gateway to the mountain from the Vestino side with the paths of the area and, close to the mountain, in the locality of Rigopiano.
